Andrew Sheptytsky

The Servant of God, Andrew Sheptytsky was born 29 July 1865 in Ukraine in the Village of Pryblichy located in the Yavoriv Municipality of the Lviv Province. He was baptized with the name Roman. Although being raised in a family of noble lineage, his upbringing instilled in him a deep sense of Faith.

XIV. Mariji Snizhnoji, 1.

German colonists founded the old church of Mary the Snowy in the XIV century. After II W.W. it was closed. In independent Ukraine it was restored and conveyed to the Greek-Catholic community.

In February 1991 the former Roman-Catholic church of Bernardine monastery was returned to the believers. The monks of the St. Basil Order obtained it. The history of the church and monastery, which was ² wooden at first and then plastered, is connected ' with a name of the monk Jan from Dukta. Here in the XIX century, a future metropolitan of the ² Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church Andrei Sheptyts'kyi was ordained. In the presbyter the grave monument of St. Jan from Dukla is placed. His image saved the city from enemy invasions time and again.
